My Philosophy

As a clinician, a mother, and a common citizen, I feel we are all at our best when we have a space to unpack what's going on for us in our myriad roles of day to day life. I strive to foster a relationship with my clients that is rooted in the idea of acceptance, non-judgment, balance, and presence.

My practice is rooted in both theory and exploration, in evidence-based practice models like CBT, DBT, Mindfulness and integrative modalities like Somatic Experiencing. I believe that though we all benefit from a therapeutic relationship, we arrive at healing from different places and with different tools.

My approach is first and foremost to connect with my clients, to listen to their unique set of challenges and goals, and to offer them a variety of avenues to work on themselves. A session therefore may include motivational interviewing dialogue, body scanning and tapping, psycho education on resiliency and coping or guided meditation--or all of the above. I favor learning from a place that is both meaning-informed and sensory-informed- that is, to work with both the analytical, interpretational part of psychotherapy and the physically felt connections given by the physical body,

I feel strongly that mental health challenges should not be stigmatized, and that individuals are much more than the diagnoses they may have received. I am an LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC ally and advocate. I have experience working with diverse clientele including in palliative/hospice care, with children and adolescents, with veterans, and in crisis settings. I look forward to collaborating with new clients.

Policies

No-Shows and Cancellations

Clients may reschedule or cancel appointments at their discretion. 24 hours notice must be provided to me to avoid incurring a cancellation fee. Late-cancels (less than 24 hours) and no-show appointments will be charged to patient in full.

Termination

Termination of treatment may be initiated by client or myself. I believe termination is a process that is necessary both at times when it is clear that the patient has progressed and improved or if the therapeutic relationship is no longer constructive. If I deem termination necessary I will present this to the patient over the course of two to three sessions. My goal in termination is to provide clear concise feedback, to allow time for assimilation and to provide closure for the patient and myself. The therapeutic relationship is different from a friendship, and I take seriously my obligation to set healthy boundaries, provide support and adhere to best practices.
